Court Work (Expert Witness)

For the last 14 years Professor Iwaniec has acted extensively as an expert witness in the Family Law Courts in Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and England. She has provided expert witness reports to the Courts in around 350 cases, dealing with:

  • Attachment problems; Neglectful parenting;
  • Emotional abuse and neglect;
  • Failure to thrive in children;
  • Parenting capacity and ability to change;
  • Assessment of child development and developmental problems of neglected and abused children;
  • Care planning and helping strategies for children in need of protection and help;
  • Assessment of children who are recommended for adoption.

As an Emeritus Professor she is continues to provide this service to the Family Divisions in the High Court, Child Care Centres (County Courts), and Magistrates’ Courts.
